Parents who teach their children to read before they start school, using this approach (a focus on phonemic awareness/ speech to print) are also preventing them from the heart ache of being taught in a school that doesn't have the training, resources or support to help children with learning challenges such as dyslexia. Parents often then have to find help externally, which can lead to frustration and a LOT of money wasted - while their child continues to struggle, emotionally and academically.
