Parents who teach their children to read before they start school, using this approach (a focus on phonemic awareness/ speech to print) are also preventing them from the heart ache of being taught in a school that doesn't have the training, resources or support to help children with learning challenges such as dyslexia. Parents often then have to find help externally, which can lead to frustration and a LOT of money wasted - while their child continues to struggle, emotionally and academically.
Tell your friends about this, an early intervention really matters - and is so simple to do. Ask children like Kensi, in Townsville, who doesn't even start school until 2020.
New online course for early years educators launched next week ! Let's send our tots to school with good phonemic awareness and a love of books. The vast majority will also be reading their books of choice for pleasure if you start at least six months before they start Prep.
